The Case
Two bombs exploded near the Boston Marathon finish line on April 15, 2013, killing Krystle Campbell, Lingzi Lu and Martin Richard and injuring hundreds of people. Three days later, MIT police officer Sean Collier was killed. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was prosecuted for his role in the bombings and the events that followed.
The federal jury found Tsarnaev guilty on all 30 counts on April 8, 2015. It selected death sentences on six counts on May 15. Judge George A. O'Toole Jr. imposed those sentences, along with additional prison terms, on June 24, 2015.
