About
James Marinelli, an FBI special agent in Boston, testified for the prosecution on Day 28 about collecting the Forum restaurant's surveillance system after the bombings. His testimony traced the equipment's removal from the restaurant and transfer into evidence.
Marinelli described going with another task force officer to the basement recording system. Mr. Gouges arranged consultation with installer Gene Scaff about identifying the recording unit and preserving its usability. Marinelli said they unplugged the computer and collected the CPU, power cord, and an attached thumb drive or dongle, then personally checked the equipment into evidence with evidence-response personnel at the Westin.
Under William D. Weinreb's questioning, Marinelli confirmed following preservation procedures. He believed video review began onsite but acknowledged that the equipment might instead have been taken to the office for review. The defense declined to ask questions, and Marinelli was excused.
