Jessica Ulmer
FBI special agent and former Dallas police officer.
About
Jessica Ulmer testified for the prosecution on Day 34 about recovering two damaged iPhones and a debit card behind the shed at 63 Franklin Street near the boat scene. The FBI special agent described her Evidence Response Team's work securing the scene after an arrest, logging access, and clearing a route to the boat to protect evidence from later foot traffic. Her team protected blood evidence from rain and held the scene for daylight and the Pittsburgh team rather than continuing processing.
On direct examination by Aloke Chakravarty, Ulmer described the recovered items through photographs and physical exhibits. Four photographs and Government Exhibits 812, 815, and 755 were admitted without objection. Both phones had damaged screens, but she described heavier damage to the white iPhone, including a detached back casing, flakes, and indentations that appeared to result from an object smashed against it. She did not identify who damaged or placed the phones there or establish a motive. When counsel spelled Dun Meng's name from the card photograph, she agreed while emphasizing that she could not read the image herself.
On cross-examination, Ulmer clarified the cleared route using Exhibit 807, explaining that it began at the driveway at 63 Franklin Street and continued toward the boat. She said blood stains would have been difficult to observe at night and did not recall seeing them during the search, which focused on larger objects such as bullet casings. She agreed that the indicated area showed evidence of activity.
