Full day summary

Judge O'Toole gave morning and afternoon groups of prospective jurors substantially similar instructions on the presumption of innocence, the government's burden of proof and their sentencing responsibility if Tsarnaev were convicted of a death-eligible crime. He directed them to complete questionnaires independently and truthfully, identify connections to potential witnesses using two attachments and sign under penalty of perjury. He explained review of sensitive information before public disclosure and consideration of hardship requests. Trial was expected to begin on or about January 26 and last three to four months. He prohibited case discussions, case-related media exposure and independent research, while allowing scheduling discussions with family and employers. Both sessions recessed for questionnaire distribution.
