Sonya Petri read a statement attributed to Kartashov that Tamerlan wanted to go to Syria and that Kartashov did not know why he had not gone. Defense counsel described a Syria propaganda video linked on Tamerlan's computer, while Michel Reynolds testified that many videos he reviewed portrayed atrocities against Muslims during Syria's civil war. Reynolds also cited Syria when describing the preservation of Chechen language and identity in diaspora communities.
